A Herding Breed

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi originated in Pembrokeshire, Wales. They are a herding breed and were used to herd cattle and hunt vermin. Their short stature makes it easier for them to duck or roll away when being kicked at by livestock.

Our Corgis favorite pastime is to hunt for mice, voles, ground squirrels and rabbits. Their keen sense of smell helps them find the active burrows. They enjoy herding the horses and cattle and being involved in everything on the ranch. On a hot day, a trip to the pond for a swim is usually on the agenda. Corgis are very comfortable in the water and are good swimmers.

Corgis usually weigh between 25 and 30 pounds and stand approximately 10 to 13 inches tall. The females are generally smaller than the males. They are a medium-sized dog with a sturdy body on short legs. Typically, Corgis have no tail, however, they are born with a tail that is docked at a few days old. Recognized colors are red, sable, fawn or black and tan with or without white markings.
